Curriculum Vitae
Rohan is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and
Engineering, and Joint Faculty at School of Artificial Intellgence at IIT Delhi.
His research is centered around Robot Learning and AI addressing topics such as
human-robot teaming, planning, language grounding and scene understanding.
The research is aimed towards capable service robots that interact seamlessly with humans.
I am also passionate about innovations assisting persons with disabilities, particularly in
mobility and eduction.
Previously, he served as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Computer Science and AI Laboratory (CSAIL) at the MIT working with Prof. Nicholas Roy contributing towards programs funded by the RCTA, the Toyota Research Institute and the National Science Foundation. Rohan obtained a D.Phil. at the Oxford University advised by Prof. Paul Newman. His doctoral research focused on models for appearance-based topological mapping, semantic mapping and continual learning through active information acquisition. Rohan obtained his B. Tech. and M.Tech. degrees at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. He is the chief inventor of the SmartCane being adopted by end-users globally and played a lead role in establishing Assistive Technologies Lab (Assistech) at IIT Delhi.
He has published at ICRA, RSS, IJRR, AAAI, IJCAI, IROS, MESA, TRANSED, winning Best Paper Awards at RSS 2016, IROS 2013, TRANSED 2012 and 2010, was named Finalist for Best Vision Paper Award at ICRA 2010 and was awarded the Bracken Bequest Research Prize at Oxford. He is a recipient of the National Award for Outstanding Applied Research Improving the Life of Persons with Disabilities, 2015 conferred by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and the National Award by the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) in 2008. Rohan was named one of “35 Global Innovators Under 35” by MIT Technology Review and “7 IITians Changing the Country for the Better” by The Better India. His work has been featured in MIT News, Engadget, Wall Street Journal, BBC, Wired, TEDx, Times of India.
