Note to Current and Prospective IITD Students
I am currently looking for students at IITD with interest in Computer Networks and Performance Evaluation. Interested students are encouraged to look through some of my recent publications. If you would like to work on a networking problem for your B.Tech., M.Tech., or Ph.D. research, please feel free to send me an email and setup a meeting time.
Current Graduate Students
I am currently co-supervising two graduate students at the University of Calgary. These students were at an advanced stage of their graduate work when I left Calgary to join IITD. These two hard working individuals are:- Nadim Parvez, Ph.D. Student, U Calgary, Jan. 2005 - till date
Nadim joined the Ph.D. program in January 2005. He has an M.Sc. degree in ECE from the University of Manitoba, and a B.Sc. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from BUET. Nadim's research interests include analytic modeling of TCP and tuning TCP performance in wired/wireless networks. Nadim is co-supervised with Carey Williamson. - Phillipa Gill,
M.Sc. Student, U Calgary, Sept. 2006 - till date
Phillipa has a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Calgary. Prior to joining the M.Sc. program, Phillipa worked with me as a research assistant (January 2005 - August 2006). During the course of her undergraduate study, she held two NSERC University Student Research Awards. For her graduate work, Phillipa received the prestigious NSERC CGS national scholarship. Her research interests include multimedia systems, Internet measurement, Web 2.0, and Wireless networks. She has published in SCS SPECTS, ACM/SPIE Multimedia Computing and Networking, and the prestigious ACM Multimedia conference. Phillipa is co-supervised with Zongpeng Li.
Former Graduate Students
- Sean Boyden, M.Sc., Sept. 2004 - Oct. 2006
Sean joined the M.Sc. program at Calgary in September 2004. He obtained the B.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Northern British Columbia in May 2004. Sean's graduate study was partially supported by a Queen Elizabeth II Post-Graduate Scholarship. Sean's thesis research was on evaluting the suitability of various TCP variants (e.g., Reno, NewReno, Vegas) for supporting on-demand media streaming. A paper describing the key results from his work appeared in IEEE IPCCC 2007. - Jeffrey Erman, M.Sc., Sept. 2005 - April 2007
Jeffrey joined the M.Sc. program at Calgary in September 2005. He has a B.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Regina. Jeffrey's thesis research developed new Internet Traffic Classification techniques. Several publications have come out of his graduate work, including papers in high-profile venues such as Performance, WWW, ACM SIGMETRICS, Minenet, and Globecom. Jeffrey's graduate study was partially supported by a Queen Elizabeth II Post-Graduate Scholarship.
Jeff's M.Sc. thesis Offline/Realtime Network Traffic Classification Using Semi-Supervised Learning (127 pages, copyright: Jeffrey Erman) - Naimul Basher, M.Sc., Sept. 2005 - April 2007
Naimul joined the M.Sc. program at Calgary in September 2005. He has a B.Sc. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Naimul was partially supported by a iCORE International Student Research Scholarship. Naimul's thesis looked at the similarities and differences between Web and Peer-to-Peer traffic. A paper describing the key results from his work is currently under preparation.
