Projects
Current Projects: APSTF constantly
focusing on many different projects, but the main ones are
stated below:
PROJECT – 1:
Tile: Infrastructure
Development
Grid / Cluster Lab Development
Under this project we intend to
create basic High Performance Computing infrastructure for
developing and optimizing applications and tools. We propose to
create a cluster of SUN workstation and a GRID test bed with SUN
Grid Engine and Globus toolkit.
We also propose
to configure the cluster and the NAS storage in such a fashion
so that we can make best use of Parallel I/O for optimizing
applications using SUN parallel file system. Since we have
proposed to have SUN machines with RedHat Linux Operating
System, we would also like to configure system with PVFS
(Parallel Virtual File System) and compare application parallel
I/O performance on both file systems.
IIT Delhi
Campus Grid testbed
We propose to
expand the Grid to Computer Services Center and other department
computing labs within IIT Delhi Campus to develop an IIT Delhi
campus Grid testbed. Later we propose to link this Grid testbed
with NTU Singapore Grid.
During initial
phase of the project, the above students will be participating
in setting up the infrastructure of the facility such as
configuration and system administration. Some of the above
students will spend their time in system maintenance and
administration as and when needed despite of their specific
projects.
PROJECT – 2:
Bio-informatics and Weather forecasting Applications
Characterization and Tuning on Solaris
PROJECT –
3: Participation in collaborative activities
with London e-science project on the development of ICENI Grid
middleware and application integration.
We
propose to configure ICENI along with SUN GRID engine and Globus
toolkit under this project. Application integration is an
important aspect of ICENI project, we propose to implement some
applications such as Seismic Data Processing, Financial market
forecast, Biological modeling, Computational Fluid Dynamics with
in ICENI framework.
We also
propose to work in collaboration to develop tools and components
for complementing ICENI middleware.
PROJECT
– 4: Applied Interval Arithmetic Research
- Target
area of applications – Engineering and Bio-informatics
PROJECT – 5:
Education Outreach
(a) Grid /
Cluster Courseware development and Organization of Education and
Training programs
Education
outreach is an important aspect of any technology development.
We propose to develop Courseware on Grid and Cluster computing
and organizing Educational and training programs on these HPC
technologies.
Grid
Evangelism, seminars and workshops
We propose to
conduct workshops/seminars under this project to share knowledge
among the researchers in the area of High Performance
Computing.
All the
participating postgraduate and undergraduate students in APSTF
will be actively involved in conducting lectures, hands-on
sessions and other organizational activities.
PROJECT
–6: Access Grid
We propose to
set up Access Grid at the local site and in the next phase
extending it to remote sites too.
