Presentation: 1. You should plan for a 20-25 minute presentation. Assuming 50 minute class, at least 25 minutes should be left for discussion. 2. Think about 2-3 key ideas that paper talks about (including technical innovations). Think about how you would convey those effectively through your presentation. 3. Think about putting less text on each slide. Slides cluttered with text are always a bad idea. Pictures are also an effective mechanisms to convey an idea effectively. Supplement the text on the slide with what you are actually going to say. 4. A general rule of thumb is about a slide a minute (unless you have animations). Some senior people tend to use more slides but using them effectively comes with practice. 5. In your presentation, keep at least a couple of slides on shortcomings/limitations of the paper and possible future directions (that you think are possible). 6. All the reviews (numbering about 10) will be due midnight the previous day. You should incorporate those reviews in your presentation/discussion. There will be some score kept aside for being able to do this effectively. 7. Very importantly, rehearse your presentation in advance so that you can present it smoothly in the class. Presenting without any rehearsal is a recipe for a not-so-good (read bad) presentation. ------------------------ Reviewing: 1. Your review should cover the following points: (a) Overall summary of the work (one or two lines at the most) (b) Key ideas (c) Pros/Cons (d) Future directions Very importantly, your review should not simply be a repeat of the abstract. You should write the review from your own perspective developed after reading the paper. 2. The maximum length of a review is 1250 characters (as enforced by google form). 3. Your reviews are due midnight the previous day. For example, if the class is on Oct 11, your review is due on the midnight between Oct 10 and Oct 11. This is a relatively hard deadline. So, if the submission site is closed by the time you submit, you get a zero on that review. You are advised to submit at least 10-15 minutes in advance of the deadline to account for any possible connectivity issues at the last minute. The only exception to this is the first paper (Oct 9) where you can submit the review by 9 am in the morning of Oct 9. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
