Course Description

Content: Digital image fundamentals; image enhancement in spatial domain: gray level transformation, histogram processing, spatial filters; image transforms: Fourier transform and their properties, fast Fourier transform, other transforms; image enhancement in frequency domain; color image processing; image warping and restoration; image compression; image segmentation: edge detection, Hough transform, region based segmentation; morphological operators; representation and description. Laboratory exercises will emphasize development and evaluation of image processing methods.

Textbook: Gonzalez and Woods, Digital Image Processing, 4th ed.

Prerequisites: COL106, ELL205, or equivalent.

Policies

Evaluation:

Dates in the future are tentative and subject to change.

Grading: Following institute policy, a minimum of 80% marks are required for an A grade, and minimum 30% marks for D.

Late policy: Homework assignments are due at midnight on the due date. You are allowed a total of 4 late days across all the assignments, counted with a granularity of 0.5 days (i.e. submission times are rounded up to the next noon or midnight). Any submissions exceeding these limits will not be graded.

Audit pass requirements: At least 75% attendance, 50% marks in the course total, and 20% marks in each assignment, quiz, and exam.

Attendance policy: Attendance lower than 75% will result in a one-grade penalty (e.g. A to A–, or A– to B), unless the original grade is D.

Missed evaluations: No retests for quizzes and minor. At most one missed quiz will be replaced with average of other quizzes. Missed minor will be scaled from the major marks. Both cases are subject to submission of IITD medical certificate.

Academic dishonesty: Any cases of plagiarism or other unfair means will result in strict disciplinary action and referral to the CSE department’s disciplinary committee.
