Broad Area of Research

Web search has matured in recent years from just retrieving Web pages, to retrieving information desired by a user. A major focus of the data management group at IIT Bombay is on such novel forms of keyword search on unstructured, semi-structured and structured data to support such information needs. Our past and ongoing research covers several aspects of the overall goal.  At the lower level, our work focuses on extracting structured information from text by annotating entities and discovering tabular data. At the upper level, our work focuses on extended keyword search on top of the semi-structured information extracted by the lower layer; we are exploring several extensions of keyword search to support this goal including queries on tables, entity ranking and entity relationship queries and keyword search on dynamic categorized information.  We are also working on keyword search on structured (relational) data, to support search on enterprise information systems.
