All Ph.D. candidates have to complete certain course requirements which could range from a total of 4 to 8 courses. These courses are meant to provide the students with sufficient breadth in computer science and to prepare them to take up research in their area of interest. Full-time candidates are given 18 months and Part-time candidates are given 24 months to complete their course requirements.
Within the first 18 months (24 months for part-time students) Ph.D. students are also required to complete their first comprehensive examinations. The comprehensive rules are given here .
